The final seconds ticked down with the game tied 14 to 14. With just 9 seconds left, NS has one last play to make a touchdown from the Delta 19 yard line. After a scramble from senior Luke Lee, senior Milo Hendry catches a last-second touchdown to win.
The NS football team is currently having a promising season this year with a record of 5-2.
“I feel pretty good about the season. We did have the loss against Richfield but I feel like we made a lot of mistakes that we could fix, but I feel like it's going really good,” senior Trevor Mann said.
The team and the coach believe that they have a good shot at being able to take state this year.
“My goal is to bring the first ever state football championship to this school. That's what we're working for. Everything we're doing is to try to make that happen” Coach Dave Peck said.
The team has a shot of winning a state championship with how well they are doing so far. If they want to win state, they need to learn how to overcome some tough opponents.
“The biggest disappointment was Richfield for sure. We came to that and I just felt like it was different, like we didn't come ready to play,” Hendry said.
Although that loss and the loss to Cedar was tough, they aren’t letting it get them down.
“Losses don't define you because even though we lost to Richfield, we still learned from it,” Mann said.
With the team's lows also comes some highs like their last-minute victory over Delta.
“I think it was the greatest victory because they're definitely a hard team and they're like they put up a really good fight,” Mann said.
Though they are definitely in it to win, the team also focuses on staying respectful. They have 10 principles that Coach Peck teaches.
“One of them is respect, one of them is service. I mean anyway there's 10 principles and I'm really big on our guys taking care of their responsibilities when it comes to our code of ethics.” Peck said.
They also are respectful to their coach with the team having a good bond with coach Peck.
“He always says it's like we’re his sons, you know, and he treats us how he treats his boys,” Hendry said.
The closeness between the entire team is a result of hard work and effort, forming a tight bond.
“We hang out probably like everyday and even when we are not hanging out in person, we are always playing video games at home,” Mann said.
That bond will help them as they continue their march to the state playoffs next month. This week will be a tough one with rival Manti on Thursday.
